Majority of the farming class live in rural areas and for many, maintaining even a subsistence-level lifestyle is a daily concern. This may have contributed significantly to keep the youths at bay from this sector.

The Youth Approach in Agriculture
As the farming population ages and conditions in urban areas become unfavorable for the youths, there is need for a generational revolution in agriculture in order to attract the youth in this sector. There is need to encourage entrepreneurship, formation of youth groups and clubs in rural areas and clubs in schools working on agricultural related activities in order to stimulate interest of the youths in farming. By exposing young people to innovative agricultural practices including the use of information communication technologies (ICTs), we will raise a generation of farmers that will be more willing to use ICT to create and utilize extension information and improve market access.

ICT is an integral part of Agricultural development
Web tools are very important tools in Agricultural development and especially if we are targeting to involve the youths. Generally, they make agriculture "sexy" enough for the youth to be attracted in addition to simplifying the way things can be done. Think of the many apps, websites, blogs and other softwares created by the youths; they've simply simplified the way information is generated and shared and if this' directed in the agricultural sectors, we are going to see massive improvements.
Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) must have realized this before coming up with a programme in which people are trained on various web2 tools. Below is a map of the previous trainings held in different parts of the world and if interested in learning about web 2 tools, I happen to be one of the lucky beneficiaries of these trainings and so you can contact me on hudson_wereh@hotmail.com.
